Biedermeier juxtaposed with Modernism in Contemporary Interior Design

Vignette 03I feel a distinct need for a dichotomy in attitude when my clients ask me  to strictly adhere to  furnishings of one specific period or era . Bringing unique elements of interior design  to the forefront is always heightened when an extreme is positioned to excite and intrigue the eye. Breaking the monotony of  one visual design style, for example an entire scheme of  stark Modernism,  by introducing an unexpected choice of elements, such  as the simplicity and elegance of the Swedish Biedermeier period  can bring the wow factor into play immediately. These are the contrasts that make the difference  and secure the success  of  any project

Heathrow via O’Hare

I recently traveled from Chicago to London and am always amazed with the kitsch and modernity that the Brits display in their Interior Design concepts and furnishing

Lord David Linley’s Salon has always been a favorite of mine, especially in design and execution of fabulous Bespoke secretaries, tables and what nots’. My clients still adore the marquetry inlay on the apron of their center hall table; all the names of their children in Old English Gothic font.

Here is an image of a new table that David is doing showing a map of the world, check out his site, not to be missed when in jolly old London.

What colors intrigue me…

When asked what the color trend for this season is the response is simple; I follow no trend. My favorite colors are light and water. Both resonate every color of the spectrum..from dark murky black-browns to vivid blues, turquoise and greens of the oceans; to yellows, purple, fiery orange and red tones of a beautiful sunset. Nature is, indeed, my go to color palette.
